Kitano tenmangu (Common name “Tenjin San”) is the shrine in Kyoto, which is famous for plum and red coloured leaves. This shrine enshrines SUGAWARA no MICHIZANE and the grand heads of the Tenmangu and Tenjinsha shrines, the number of which is about 12,000 shrines all over Japan, and which enshrine him as an enshrined deity. Also, there are many dedications of prayers and votive pictures of horses from examinees all over the Japan as the god of academy. On the 25th of every month many stands open for the temples' festival (Tenjin San).

Its formal name is the Rokuon-Ji Temple, and the reliquary hall “Kinkaku” is especially famous, and is generally called Kinkaku-Ji, and registered as a component asset of a World Heritage (cultural heritage) “Cultural Asset of Ancient Kyoto”. This is one of the most famous sightseeing locations in Kyoto. The gold reliquary hall was constructed by Yoshimitsu ASHIKAGA, the third Shogun of the Muromachi Bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a Shogun), who was “Shogun Sama” in the animation “Ikkyu San”, and is the one of the representative architectures of the Muromachi Period. At that time, Kinkaku-Ji developed the site comparable to that of the Kyoto Imperial Garden, and many political functions in Japan were integrated there. In 1950, due to arson by the scholar monk Kinkaku-Ji, it was completely destroyed by fire. Kinkaku-Ji was reconstructed in 1955.

Less than five minutes-walk away and famous for long waiting lines every day is “Toyouke Chaya”. This shop opened in 1897, and has been operating directly as a long-established tofu shop. The reason for opening this shop was that they wanted students on school field trips and customers coming from distant places to eat there. Different from the good local cuisine of Kyoto's Japanese-style restaurants, it is possible to enjoy the food in this tea-house produced by the tofu shop, and this shop offers tofu skin served in a bowl, soybean milk yogurt, and goods sold over the counter.

Beef croquettes using baron potatoes produced in Hokkaido and beef sinew of Japanese black beef are the No. 1 recommended products of our shop. The croquettes are fried at the shop front, our deep-fried food, salad, and fried food are also delicious, and the shop offers a Japanese box lunch for 300 yen. This shop has an extensive menu, and one famous item in this shopping street is the “Phantom croquette (common name YOKAI croquette)”.

The Keifuku Electric Railroad line from Kitano-Hakubaicho to Katabiranotsuji is called Randen, and together with the Arashiyama Line they are very popular as the citizens' favourite method of transportation. This electric tram service enables people to enjoy various scenes, such as the tunnel of cherry blossoms at Spring time and the red leaves during the Autumn season.

This public bath is located close by, only about a two-minute walk away. Various enjoyable public baths, including an open-air bath, sauna, medicated bath, switching hot water, jet bath spa, etc. are available.
