They may not be mentioned in guidebook, but worth to visit for sure. While your stay in Kyo Miyabi, why don’t you find your own favorite spots where no one ever be?
Before Kyo Miyabi

The original building was built in 1913 as a traditional residence. "Tsushi nikai (2nd floor with a lower ceiling)" had been the common architectural style around that time, and still be seen in Kyo Miyabi. Not only that, you can find other features of Kyo Machiya, such are "Kawara yane (tiled roof)", "Degoushi (projecting lattice windows)", "Hibukuro (smoke shaft)", "Mushiko mado (window with vertical lattices like an insect case)", "Tsuchi kabe (soil wall)" and "Doma (earthed floor)"

It's recently renovated to become an accommodation for our guests. Therefore, you will feel something modern, but will notice a 100 years Kyoto-machiya history here and there in Kyo Miyabi.
Kyomachiya

Kyo Machiya architectural style appeared about 1220 years ago. Around that time, craftsmen and merchants recruited by court nobles started settling down in Kyoto and building their own houses on the main street. That's the beginning of Kyo Machiya history.

Since Kyo Machiya was meant to be a house for merchants to live, but at the same time to have a business with people passing by, it has significant features in its architectural style, such as the space in the entrance to welcome guests(Misenoma) or projecting lattices window on the front(Degoushi). It’s always facing to the main street or adjoining houses to easily communicate with people outside. We can say, therefor, Kyo Machiya is the embodiment of the commercial culture in Kyoto.
